Brazilian philanthropist, politician and banker Walther Moreira Salles has an estimated net worth of $2.7 billion as of March 2013 according to Forbes. He is considered among the leaders in the modern Brazilian banking and financial business. Walther Moreira Salles was born to Joo Moreira Salles, the guy behind the institution of Casa Bancria Moreira Salles (Moreira Salles Banking House) in Pocos de Caldas. At age 21, he became a partner in the financial institution in 1933. Seven years later, the bank was able to combine three regional banks, also it was later renamed to Unio de Bancos Brasileiros (Unibanco). Eventually, the bank became one of the top three banking institutions in Brazil. After spending 60 years of his life for Unibanco, Salles eventually retired as the lender ‘s Chairman of the Board in 1991. Salles died in 2001 due to causes undisclosed. He had two unsuccessful marriages, with Helene and Eliza,before he married Lucia in 1986. He’s four kids named Pedro, Walter, Joao and Fernando Moreira Salles. His son,Pedro Moreira Salles, now serves as Unibanco’s current president.
