Vivek Ranadive is an Indian businessman, engineer, writer, speaker and philanthropist with an estimated net worth of $700 million. He was born on October 7, 1957 in Mumbai, India. He was accepted at MIT when he was sixteen, not able to attend because of the Indian government’s then-policy throughout the 70s of not releasing foreign currency to citizens planning to study abroad. Ranadive earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at MIT. Then he earned his MBA from Harvard University in 1983 as a Baker Scholar. While at MIT, he began his first business, UNIX consulting company. After school, he promptly worked for Ford, M/A-com Linkabit and Fortune Systems. Vivek became the creator as well as the head of Teknekron Software Systems in 1985. He initiated and developed the concept of the “software bus” which afterwards became known as “The Information Bus” or TIB that’s credited with digitizing Wall Street in the 1980s. Then he went on to found TIBCO Software Inc. in 1997, a multi-billion dollar real-time computing business. He now serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He could be the co-owner and vice chairman of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA.
