He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison using a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Steven started his professional career as a WKOW TV on air news reporter and morning anchorman in Madisonx Wisconsin. Steven was also a copywriter at Leo Burnett Advertising in Chicago but later moved to Hollywood in 1989. Levitan started writing, directing and/or producing several popular television shows like Wings, The Larry Sanders, Frasier, Greg the Bunny, Just Shoot Me, Stacked, The Critic, Back to You, Men Behaving Badly and Modern Family. His work led to seven Emmy Award nominations. Levitan has won three Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series for Frasier and Modern Family, while the third is for Outstanding Writing for Modern Family. Levitan has additionally won the Humanitas Award, a Cable ACE Award, a Producers Guild Award, as well as a Television Critics Association Award for several other shows. In 2006, Levitan established the production business called Picture Day along with writer/producer Christopher Lloyd.
