Considered as the world’s first ethanol billionaire, he’s the 19th richest individual in Brazil and 554th in the record of World Billionaires. Also known as the “tractor,” Rubens got his nickname in the truth that his companies harvest sugarcane which constructed his estimated net worth of $2.6 billion. Yet another thing is that, he also had a ten-year court fight together with his family members on the charge of his business, Cosan, which was openly listed in 2005. Rubens Ometto Silveira Mello took within the business for ten years. Within five years just, he turned the firm into one of the biggest growers and processors of sugarcane in the whole world. It is also one of the largest makers of ethanol. In 2007, he set up Cosan Limited, a firm using a double share structure that gives a number of his shares ten times the voting weight of ordinary shares. Such move was done so as to fortify his control on the business. Before he ventured into business, Mr. Mello worked as the youngest fiscal director for the Votorantim Group and has to thank his mentor Antonio Ermirio de Moraes for this. Rubens graduated with a diploma in engineering in the Polytechnic School of the University of So Paulo, one of Brazil’s top engineering universities.
