John of Gaunt was understood by the title of Duke of Lancaster on November 12, 1362. Throughout that time, he possessed more thirty castles and estates in England and France. To strengthen his brothers, the Black Prince and Edmund of Langley in Aquitaine, he sent an army to the place in 1370. When the siege of Limoges finished, the Black Prince went back to England after conceding his lordship of Aquitaine. In 1373, John was among those who led peace negotiations which resulted in the Anglo-French Congress of Bruges. He promised the throne of Castile in 1386, when he wed his second wife, Constance. Upon his return to England in 1389, he got the Lords Appellant and King Richard to compromise in their own discussions. He married three times and had fourteen kids. He died on February 3, 1399 in Leicester Castle, Leicestershire.
