He began to work in a brewery, remaining there for a couple of years. Then he worked on a farm to get a year. He became a tallyman, and then a yard supervisor and salesman. He was the supervisor of a yard business in Coal Valley. When the business started having financial problem, Weyerhaeuser purchased the business. He along with his brother in law Frederick Denkmann formed the Weyerhaeuser-Denkmann Lumber Company. In 1872, he created the Mississippi River Boom and Logging Co. He married Sarah Elizabeth Bloedel, and had seven kids. On April 4, 1914, he expired in Pasadena, California.
