Jones started his professional basketball career when he was drafted as the 10th overall pick from the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1994 NBA Draft. During his rookie season, he averaged 14.0 points and 2.05 steals per game. He played a total of 64 matches where he was a starter in 58 matches. He placed 4th in the NBA Rookie of the Year vote and was on the 1994-95 NBA All-Rookie First Team.
