Anand started his professional career as an actor when he appeared in Hum Ek Hain in 1946. Other films he appeared in contain Vidya, Jeet, Shair, Afsar, Sanam, Ziddi, Baazi, Paying Guest, as well as other famous pictures that makes Anand’s livelihood successful. He produced successful movies, like Kala Pani, Jewel Thief, Heera Panna, Prem Pujari, Censor, and Love at Prime Square. He also directed critically-acclaimed films, including Swami Dada, Awwal Number, Sau Crore, Charge Sheet, and Main Solah Baras Ki. In 1949, he established his own film production company, Navketan Films, through which Anand produced 35 pictures. He was acknowledged by several prize-giving bodies, which doled out national and international honors to Anand. He got a BA degree in English Literature from the Government College in Lahore, Pakistan. Anand was wed to Kalpana Kartik in 1954 and has one child. In December 3, 2011 while having a holiday in London, he died from cardiac arrest in The Washington Mayfair Hotel.
