American entrepreneur Bill Zanker is best known as the creator of The Learning Annex. This is a private continuing adult education school located in New York, founded in 1980 in his studio apartment having an initial investment of only $5,000. It’s now considered the biggest adult education company in North America. Zanker sold his interests in the company in 1991 and continued as its consultant until 1997. In exactly the same year, he purchased the New York Learning Annex and helped acquire the Canadian Learning Annex in venture with all the California Learning Annex owners. In December 2001, Bill Zanker bought out each of his associates and became the sole owner of Learning Annex properties. Zanker was responsible for helping the business grow from $5.5 million to $137 million in only a span of four years. It was featured as one of INC Magazine’s “Fastest Growing Companies” for two consecutive years. In 1993, Mr. Bill Zanker founded a chain of tension reduction shops called The Great American BackRub, then sold it to The Barclay Group in 1997. Zanker also started BrainFuel.com, among the first web-based e-Learning companies and sold it later in 1999 for $9 million. By 2007, he started a second instruction web site, OneMinuteU, which will be centered on video sharing. Users can post videos which may teach the viewer and must be only one minute long. Zanker then visited The New School, where he got a master’s degree in film.
