Bashar started working as an army doctor after completing his graduation in medicine in the University of Damascus. In 1994, Bashar was sent to a military academy in the north of Damascus. Bashar eventually climbed to the position of Colonel in 1999. The next year, Bashar became the President of Syria, as his dad, the President at that time died. Bashar was reelected in 2007. Bashar has two brothers — The couple has three kids — Hafez, Zein and Karim.
Before he became the President, Bashar was already serving as the political adviser to the president ‘Hafez-al-Assad’. Bashar held a great deal of political power. Though some people praised him, but Bashar had lots of detractors as well. Bashar was criticized for being involved with uncontrolled corruption. Bashar was publically criticized and exposed for ignoring human rights, economic and corrupt scams. Ironically however, the western world and political powers initially viewed Bashar as a reformer and somebody they could work with in the Middle East.
